It's not trivial: the (beltless) pulley on the end of the crankshaft needs to be removed, and it's fastened by a high-torqued bolt. The engine mount also needs to come off. If I were going to use any sealant on it, it would be where the rounded part (in the back of this photo) which has a sharp corner:. The reason is, the corner of the gasket is a hard place to seal. I use 3m spray adhesive on the timing cover and the timing cover side of the gasket only. Set the gasket on the cover and align all of the holes. Some timing cover bolts go into water and will require a dab of Teflon sealant. Also true of a couple water pump bolts - which can leak down against the timing cover and fool ya'.
